Ibrar Ul-Haq’s father, having spent his life working in the mills, ensured that his son received a thorough education. Ibrar went on to gain a Master’s degree in medical statistics from Oxford University, where he subsequently taught.While at Oxford Ibrar was selected from 60,000 applicants to commence pilot training with British Airways. Rising through the ranks to become the first Muslim captain at BA, Ibrar also became a much sought-after speaker in schools and other organizations.
Ibrar has also found the time to be a school governor, voluntary director of a local radio station, magistrate and trustee of the Al-Shifa Trust raising money for eye hospitals in Pakistan. In late 2004 Ibrar also launched a Muslim television station in the US; a UK launch is scheduled for Spring 2005.
