| Wali Tasar Uddin is well known, liked and respected, throughout both Europe and Bangladesh as a successful businessman, an active member of Edinburgh and Leith Chambers, a community leader and an outstanding humanitarian. In 2000, Wali Tasar Uddin was awarded the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration by Queen Margaret University College, based in Edinburgh.
Well known for his acumen in the restaurant profession with the famous Verandah, lancers and latest venture, "Britannia Spice Restaurants", Wali Uddin has extensive business interests in the commercial world being Director–General of the Bangladesh–British Chamber of Commerce and is Chairman/CEO of both the Universal Koba Corporation Ltd and Frontline Travel.
Deeply involved as a respected community leader in Scotland, Wali Uddin is Chairman of the Commonwealth Society of Edinburgh, The Edinburgh Mela, The Edinburgh Sanity, and was a major initiator in the Bangladesh Flood Victim Appeal Fund, The Shefa Kallyan Trust, the Bangladesh Cyclone Trust and the campaign for the Royal Hospital of Sick Children in Edinburgh. A committed and active member of both the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and the Institute of Directors and Rotary International, in 1992 he was awarded Junior Chambers Young Scot of the Year award.
In Bangladesh, Wali Uddin's efforts have touched tens of thousands of people. In 1991, following the disastrous cyclone, he was instrumental in raising over £140,000 which was used to build a three story concrete shelter and Baharchara-Ratnapur High School. In 1998 he was instrumental in raising over £220,000 to enable the construction of a 'raised' model village and training centre, to enable the dispossessed to learn crafts and skills in order to rebuild their lives.
In 1984 Wali Uddin was the first Bangladeshi in Scotland to be made Justice of the Peace (Magistrate). In 1993 he was appointed as the first Honorary Consul General of Bangladesh in Scotland, and in 1995 he was made a Member of the British Empire by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, for his services to race relations.
Wali Uddin has made an impressive contribution to society, and the Bangladeshi community, through his business, community and charity work and has continually stressed the vital importance of education for his countrymen and women.
