Dr Ajit Lalvani is Senior Clinical Research fellow and Honorary Consultant Physician at the University of Oxford. He leads a research group funded by the Wellcome Trust and the World Health Organisation to investigate the immunology of TB infection. Previously Ajit has pioneered the new field of T Cell based diagnosis of TB infection. Ajit is also the author of over 30 papers in infectious diseases and cellular immunology and has been awarded several prizes for his landmark findings. His latest discovery has helped to understand for the first time how the 60 year old practise of BCG vaccine functions and he has changed the way children protection is now undertaken. |
