Mohammed Khaliq arrived in the UK as a young man in 1970. He grew up in a small village and has more than achieved his dreams. He started his business through the acquisition of several food stores. In 1981 Khaliq established MK Builders North East Limited, concentrating on property construction and investment. On the back of this success, in 1995 Khaliq along with his wife and business partner Susan established Gainford Care Homes Ltd through the development of their first nursing home. The family run business has won awards as one of the fastest growing companies in the North East and has provided a wide range of healthcare services including specialised care. Today, the combined business is valued at over £40m, generates a turnover of £15m and employs over 600 people in the North East community.
