  Amina Patel
North of Britain - 2009 Winner
Professional Excellence Award
Amina Patel
Meena Bakery

Amina Patel came to the United Kingdom in 1971 with no knowledge of English or baking. Her determination to learn and succeed inspired her to learn the English language and master the art of baking. In 1972, she started her first baking business on Ordnance Street, Blackburn, at the tender age of 17 with the help of her father and mother-in-law until it was sadly demolished. During this period, this was the only Asian bakery in the whole of Lancashire. In 1980, she established her business independantly at her current location on Victoria Street. Being a mother of five and a determined businesswoman, she has devoted a large amount of her life and invested a hugh amount of effort towards running this small business and has succeeeded with flying colours, with help from her loyal employees. Meena Bakery, over the years, has transformed from being a small local supplier to one of the finest Asian bakeries in Blackburn.
