| The Asian Jewel Awards
are, without doubt, the biggest celebration of Asian success and achievement
ever seen in Britain. A celebration which concentrates on the positive,
on the way that Asian people have successfully integrated into British
society and are now making a highly valuable contribution to the social
and economic fabric of this country.
Over the past year I have been most struck by the achievements
and success stories prevalent within our community and I am proud to be able to chronicle
some key parts of what has been done. Here is an eclectic presentation
of the best of Asian success and integration, a profile of a community
that is proud of its commitment to the central values of its
traditions of
hard work, self-reliance, and community service.
We have found enormous goodwill on the part of business, industry
and the public sector to take part in this valuable and highly appreciated
